This paper reported collaborative investigation for practical use of simple passive sampling methods participating 13 laboratories by Tokai-Kinki-Hokuriku Branch of Environmental Laboratories Association. Although N-type sampler's blank value was a little large at NH3, HCl and O3, field samples had more than 1 order large compare with corresponding blank value in many cases. The relation between gas collected amount (umol) by N-type polyamide passive sampler and the time weighted average concentration (umol m-3day) by the four-stage filter pack method was linear or cumulative at HNO3, SO2 and NH3. However, the collection of HCl was not cumulative particularly to a summer survey. As for N-type NaNO2 passive sampler, the collection of O3, SO2 and HCl was cumulative and for N-type and O-type H3PO4 impregnated passive sampler, NH3 was also cumulatively collected until 6 weeks. The measurement precision of N-type passive samplers shwed mostly less than 10% relative standard deviation, but O-type sampler had large variation except for O3. Sampling rate (k value) was calculated using all the data of passive methods on the basis of the corresponding air concentration by the four-stage filter pack method or the automatic measurement methods and exposure period. Sampling rate of NH3 by N-type H3PO4 impregnated sampler was about 5 times larger than that by O-type. As a result of the comparison study of the exposure shelter prepared to this joint investigation, and the type being used from the former, the difference in two kinds of the shelter was small.
